Purple Heart Egg Hinged Ring Box

Description

A handmade wooden ring box made from Purple Heart wood.

The body and lid are all made from one solid piece of Purple Heart wood which has been turned to shaped and then sanded and polished to give a smooth tactile finish. The two halves fit together with a brass hinge that is held closed with a small magnet.

The egg is attached to a tulip wood base to create an eye catching contrast with the purple egg.

When freshly cut the purple heart can be a dull grayish/purplish brown. Upon exposure—usually within a few days—the wood becomes a deeper eggplant purple. With further age and exposure to UV light, the wood becomes a dark brown with a hint of purple.
