Description
Embracing the ancient Japanese art of “Horimono” to create a semi-relief carving wrapping the exterior of this amphora urn style vase, captivates the essence of ‘Hanami’ (cherry blossom viewing)
Standing at 28cm tall (and 12cm dia), the outside shape of this ergonomically shaped urn vase has been hand carved to give a textured feel whilst the “Horimono” presents a delicate representation of the “Sakura” (Cherry Tree). Hand painted using a complimenting shades of iridescent pinks and white, the blossoms remain fragile in appearance by the semi-translucence created by the meticulously orchestrated layering.
The blossom stamens in the bloom centres have been embellished using delicate highlighting with gold metallic paint. The same gold has been used to highlight a band within the pedestal and also the interior of the vase.
The contrasts between the textured exterior, the bright gold highlights and the appearance of fragile blooms provides a deliberate juxtaposition which can only been fully appreciated by seeing the vase in person
