Description
A dense wood, offering a Janka rating (measuring hardness) of nearly 2500, it is more than twice as hard as red oak.
A tree from the Eucalyptus family and native to Eastern Australia, Red Mallee are typically small trees but are known to produce incredible burl caps that offer overwhelming allure with an artistic palette for any artisan. The burls reveal exceptional colour variations ranging from pink to orange/red heartwood, with pale yellow sapwood.
Weighing in at 2kg, this majestic burl is an extremely rare find and has been creatively sculptured to maximise the potential and showcase its natural features.
Deliberately retaining the main body of the burl, a recessed bowl with an emerging rim has been turned at the widest point. I have left the underside of the burl as natural as possible, as you will see from the photo gallery
A truly irresistible statement piece, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to own.
Measurements: 30cm x 20cm x 8cm; 14.75cm dia bowl, 13.25cm x 2cm (internal size)
